LTE: Encourage young voices who benefit society – Opinion – The Intelligencer

The student Ms. DaPrato wrote an incredibly brave, honest and touching article titled, “Living with Anxiety,” that was published May 24. To bare one’s soul so publicly at such a young age had to be a truly difficult decision to make.

The reality of high school, unfortunately, includes peer pressure and bullying. Therefore, exposing oneself to these potential harmful experiences — at such a vulnerable age — is more than worthy of congratulations and recognition.

This young lady has probably helped many other young people in the same situation who realize they are not alone or are in some way different. Opening a dialogue for such a sensitive and often taboo subject can well prevent a more tragic outcome later.

In our current society, many so-called adult leaders are talking and acting with infantile and foolish behavior. We need to recognize, validate and encourage a mature and sincere young voice who is actually benefiting society.
