Twitch teased a big announcement this week, and it finally announced the details during its Twitch Weekly stream today: It’s unveiling a convention.
TwitchCon is an event for streamers and gamers to gather in San Francisco. It’s set for Sept. 25 and Sept. 26 at the Moscone Center. Details are light at the moment, but the video-streaming company just launched a website where you can sign up for more details. While this convention is likely going to attract new games from developers and publishers, Twitch is billing it as a chance for fans and viewers to mingle with the biggest broadcasters.
“Twitch broadcasters have the most passionate fans, so we want to create an amazing experience where they can come together in person,” Twitch chief executive Emmett Shear said. “TwitchCon will be an opportunity for the entire community — broadcasters, game developers, viewers, and us — to play and learn together.”
In a press release, the company confirmed it is working with event-organization group ReedPop, which is responsible for other gaming-industry fan events.
Last year, Amazon purchased Twitch for $970 million. This came after the site established itself as the leader in a huge gaming-video space. Twitch claims it has more than 65 million monthly active viewers, and more than a million people who stream content on the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and other platforms.
