Are you planning a trip abroad and don’t want to rely on free Wi-Fi that you get in a hotel, cafes and malls? Well, you can activate international roaming on your phone number and enjoy voice and data services like you do in your home country. Vodafone, Airtel and Idea Cellular all offer international roaming plans, and earlier this year, Reliance Jio also introduced a range international roaming plans, both for prepaid and post users. There are four plans to choose from, and a pay-as-you-go plan as well, with attractive rates.
If you have a Reliance Jio number and want to use it abroad, you’ll first need to activate international roaming service on your number. You can do that by calling the customer care number or from the MyJio app. Now, let’s look at the available plans and their benefits.
Reliance Jio International Roaming plans for prepaid and postpaid
International Roaming at Rs 575
The Rs 575 plan comes with a one-day validity, and 100 minutes of calling, both local and international. Incoming calls and SMS are completely free, whereas 100 outgoing SMS are also bundled in the plan. Talking about data, users get 250MB high-speed 4G data, and once the FUP limit is hit, you can continue unlimited downloads at throttled speed of 64kbps speeds. This plan is available in a total of 20 countries including UAE, United States, Thailand and Singapore, to name a few.
International Roaming at Rs 1,101
This is a global pack that is applicable in 170 countries, and valid for 28 days. For that amount, you get benefits worth Rs 1,211 with outgoing international calls charged at Rs 100 per minute, calls to India, local calls, and incoming calls charged at Rs 2 per minute. Also, outgoing SMS are charged at Rs 2 per message, and mobile data is charged at Rs 2 per MB.
However, these rates are for US, Canada, UK and Singapore among others. In countries like Taiwan, and China, and a few other countries, outgoing calls and SMS are charged at Rs 10 per minute, and per message. Also mobile data is charged at Rs 10 per MB. All these tariffs are mentioned on Reliance Jio’s website.
International Roaming at Rs 2,875
With this plan you get the same benefits as the Rs 575 recharge, but the validity has been increased to seven days. You also get 250MB high-speed data daily, after which speed is throttled to 64Kbps. You also get 100 calling minutes daily for 7 days.
International Roaming at Rs 5,751
This is the most expensive pack from Reliance Jio and it is valid for 30 days. In total, you get 1,500 minutes of usage (outgoing local in the country and calls to India), 1,500 SMS and unlimited data usage with a cap of 5GB, after which the speed will drop to 64kbps. The plan perfect for users who are going on a long trip. Similar to other plans, a total of 20 countries are covered.
This is one of the interesting offering from Reliance Jio which also gives the telco an edge over the competition. In case of Vodafone, Idea Cellular and Airtel, the outgoing calls and data rates are quite high for the base plan. However, Jio is offering a 2-2-2 rates, which means voice calls will be charged at Rs 2 per minute, data at Rs 2 per MB and SMS at Rs 2 per message. Outgoing international calls will be charged at Rs 100 per minute.
To avail the plan, you need to activate one of the international roaming plans once. Next, the charges will be deducted from your prepaid account balance, or will be added to your bill for postpaid users.
