LG G8 ThinQ confirmed to be 4G, V-series 5G, but no foldable phone for MWC – Pocket-lint

LG has confirmed that its forthcoming LG G8 ThinQ smartphone will be a 4G LTE handset.

Indeed, it revealed that all of LG’s G-series phones will be 4G going forward – presumably named the LG G9, LG G10, etc.

It is committed to 5G phones too, but the superfast data tech will be specific to its V-series handsets, starting with the LG V50 ThinQ – as recently leaked.

Both the LG G8 ThinQ and LG V50 ThinQ will be unveiled during the company’s press conference on the eve of Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The head of LG, Kwon Bong-seok explained LG’s new handset strategy to press in the company’s home country of South Korea.

He also revealed that MWC 2019 was too early to exhibit a foldable phone: “The latest V-series smartphone, which will be released between March and April, will run on 5G and the G-series smartphone will become a premium LTE smartphone brand,” he said, as reported by The Korea Times.

“LG’s main issue in smartphone business is to regain its market position. Considering this situation, it is too early for LG to launch a foldable smartphone.”

Pocket-lint will be at the LG Barcelona press event on 24 February and MWC the following week. We’ll bring you all the news and first impressions live throughout.
