Firefox for Android passes 100 million downloads four years after launch

Mozilla announced Firefox for Android hit a big milestone today: 100 million downloads. The figure is confirmed on Google Play, where the app now shows the Installs category is in the “100,000,000 – 500,000,000″ range.

This cements Firefox as the most popular browser alternative on Android. The next runner up is Opera, which still sits in the “50,000,000 – 100,000,000″ range on Google Play.

Yet it’s important to emphasize that this number is for downloads and installs, not active users. In November, Google said Chrome for mobile (that’s Android and iOS) had 400 million active users.
