Huawei Fails to Save Samsung-Challenged 4G Patent at Fed. Cir. – Bloomberg Law

A successful Samsung Electronics Co. challenge to parts of a Huawei Technologies Co. patent covering a way for 4G phones to connect to 2G and 3G networks was affirmed by the Federal Circuit Thursday.

The opinion marks the third time Huawei has lost on appeals of Samsung telecommunications patent challenges from the Patent Trial and Appeal Board since May.

Huawei owns U.S. Patent No. 8,483,166, covering a method for a mobile device set up to operate on a 4G network to access a “legacy” 2G or 3G network using a temporary ID that it already has from the 4G network….
