436 mobile network operators now offering FWA using LTE or 5G: GSA ForumNEW DELHI: With a gain in adoption globally, 3GPP-based fixed-wireless access (FWA) has now become a mainstream service for telcos with over 436 mobile network operators (MNOs) in 171 countries and territories now offering FWA using LTE or 5G, said Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) 4G-5G FWA Forum on Tuesday.

At the same time, 425 operators in 169 countries and territories are now selling FWA services based on LTE while 63 operators are marketing residential or business 5G FWA broadband services, up from 44 in six months, the forum said.

“Connecting the unconnected was already a fundamental priority in a normal world, but, as we are seeing with the terrible pandemic situation that we are still facing, our mission to accelerate people’s access to broadband connectivity through 4G/5G FWA is only becoming more critical. This is true for developing as well as developed economies,” said Julien Grivolas, Chairman of GSA 4G-5G FWA Forum.

According to the forum, there are 645 indoor and outdoor LTE CPE device models suitable for residential and small and medium business broadband services. Further 144 indoor and outdoor 5G FWA CPE models have been announced while 61 new device models have been launched so far in 2021, it said.

GSA 4G-5G FWA Forum’s founding partners and members include Ericsson, Huawei, Mediatek, Netgear, Nokia, Qualcomm, among others.
