The JioPhone has competition. Rival Airtel has partnered with Celkon under ‘Mera Pehla 4G Smartphone’ initiative to provide a 4G smartphone for Rs 1,349. The booking amount of effectively free JioPhone is Rs 1,500 and it is mandatory to do Rs 153 recharge per month for 36 months to get the refund.
The Celkon Smart 4G has a dual SIM phone with a 4-inch FWVGA display, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, micro USB port, Android 6.0 Marshmallow, 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage expandable up to 32GB. The device supports 4G LTE and VoLTE. Airtel apps such as Wynk Music, Airtel TV and My Airtel app are preloaded in the device.
The Celkon Smart 4G features a 3.2MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, FM Radio, and 1500mAh battery.
Much like Airtel’s Karbonn A40 offer, users will have to make a payment of Rs 2,849 for the Celkon 4G smartphone, and 36 continuous monthly recharges of Rs 169. Customers will get a cash refund of Rs 500 after 18 months and another refund of Rs 1,000 after 36 months. This makes up for a total cash benefit of Rs 1500. Therefore, the effective price of the phone stands at Rs 1,349.
Customers who do not wish to avail of the Rs 169 bundled plan will have the flexibility of doing any recharges as per their requirements. However, to claim the first refund of Rs 500, they need to do recharges worth Rs 3000 within the first 18 months. To claim a refund of Rs 1,000, they will have to do recharges of Rs 3000 over the next 18 months (Total 36 months, total recharge amount Rs 6,000).
Earlier this month, Airtel has partnered with Karbonn to offer A40 smartphone at an effective price of Rs 1,399 .
