Sentient Technologies is aiming what it calls massively scalable artificial intelligence on huge problems of data analysis.
Now the company will have a whole lot more capital to pursue that ambitious goal: It has raised a $103.5 million Series C funding round, led by Access Industries, bringing its total money raised to date to more than $143 million.
Sentient operates AI jobs in a distributed fashion, running jobs on millions of what it calls AI processing nodes. This enables its users to discover patterns in enormous data sets that are not readily visible to more traditional methods of data analysis. So far, the company has focused on research in financial trading and medicine.
Tata Communications and existing investor Horizons Ventures also participated in the round.
The company is based in San Francisco with an office in Hong Kong.
