UPDATE: Nokia 3310 WITH 4G Official (But Only In China)
The new-new Nokia 3310 with 4G is official – but you can only get out in China
HMD’s wildcard release of 2017 was the Nokia 3310, a reimagining of Nokia’s classic mobile phone. Designed to offer market-leading battery life and a durable design, the new Nokia 3310 caused quite a stir when it got official.
But now there is a new-new Nokia 3310 – and this one comes with 4G. Yep, that’s right: a feature phone that doesn’t really support apps now has 4G connectivity.
The catch? The new-new Nokia 3310 is ONLY available in China. And that fact doesn’t look like it will be changing anytime soon, so those hoping to pick one up in the US and UK might be waiting a while.
In what can only be described as one of the best marketing stunts of ALL time (in the tech space), Nokia – under the guidance of new owners HMD – exploded back onto the scene in 2017 with the announcement of a bunch of Android phones and the return of the Nokia 3310.
HMD knows that A LOT of people have fond memories of the 3310; it was one of the biggest selling and most-used handsets of all time. HMD used this to its advantage by putting together a rebooted version of the Nokia 3310, probably at very little expense, for release in 2017.
News of the Nokia 3310 reboot went viral; everybody was talking about it. And at MWC 2017 the Nokia 3310 was the handset that EVERYBODY wanted to see, use and take pictures of – so much so, in fact, that it kind of eclipsed Nokia’s other, more impressive Android-powered announcements.
This is marketing done right, as now it seems as if Nokia never went away. The brand is alive and vibrant and pressing ahead with its Android-powered smartphones.
And what of the Nokia 3310? Well… HMD just confirmed its release date; the handset will be available on May 27 for just £49.99 via Carphone Warehouse.
Actually, scratch that, the Nokia 3310 appears to be arriving in the UK a little early; May 24. The SIM-free and unlocked price is the same as above though; £49.99. It will then land in Germany on May 26 for €59.99, followed by Belgium and the Netherlands on June 5. Colour options include red, yellow, blue, and grey.
I can only imagine how little this handset cost to make!
