India’s state owned MTNL is reportedly close to offering free roaming across the country.
The company currently has mobile networks in Delhi and Mumbai, and roaming deals with other operators to expand its coverage.
MTNL Chairman and Managing Director NK Yadav told the Press Trust of India that they will scrap roaming charges shortly, noting that the exact date is still to be worked out.
The move is part of a government policy to gradually phase out roaming charges between the different circles that make up India’s mobile market.
India’s other state-owned telco, BSNL already offers free national roaming.
