Now that Mozilla’s five-year deal with Google is up, the company is making a pivotal change in the way it handles search partnerships.

The company announced today that it has signed new regional deals with two search providers, making Yandex the default search engine for Firefox users in Russia and Yahoo the default in the U.S.

Baidu will continue to be Firefox’s default search engine in China, Mozilla shares.

Although users will be able to manually change Firefox’s default search engine, many probably won’t — that’s why it’s not difficult to read this move as a direct hit on Google, which previously served as Firefox’s default search engine across the globe.
