Motorola is following in the footsteps of Samsung to become the latest Android device maker to take to its own website to sell its smartphones.

The handset in question is the second-generation successor to the hugely popular Moto G, and now you can buy it directly from Motorola.

Not only that, but you will also be able to purchase the colourful shells that make up its bright design.

Motorola - Shells for Moto G

Priced at just £149.99, the 5-inch Moto G (2nd-gen) is slightly larger than its predecessor  and comes with an upgraded 720p display. It also boasts a Snapdragon 400 1.2GHz quad-core processor and a 8MP rear-camera. An additional feature is expandable storage thanks to its new microSD card slot, which can hold up to 32GB.

The handset comes in either black or white out of the box, but can be customised using a total of eight bad covers (or ‘shells’ as Motorola has termed them). An individual shell can be purchased for £10.99 directly from Motorola – colours include chalk, black, violet, spearmint, raspberry, blue, turquoise and lemon lime.

Motorola has promised to bulk up its new e-store, which can be accessed through its website, with new products in the future. That’s certainly an exciting prospect when you look at the company’s extensive line-up of devices, which include the new Moto X, the Moto E, the Moto G 4G and its first wearable; the Moto 360 Android Wear smartwatch.
