Megacable planning to launch MVNO on Red Compartida
Mexican cable operator Megacable is planning to launch an MVNO later this year or at the start of 2019 using the recently activated ‘Red Compartida’ wholesale mobile network, reports El Universal, citing CEO Enrique Yamuni. “We have practically reached an agreement with Altan, the operator of Red Compartida, and are planning the service launch,” said Yamuni. Megacable had 3.1 million pay-TV customers, 2.7 million broadband subscribers and 1.5 million fixed line customers at the end of March. The company is already part of the Altan consortium alongside Axtel and Morgan Stanley Infrastructure.
The first phase of the ‘Red Compartida’ network was activated in March and covered around 32 percent of the country’s population, bringing 4.5G technology to a total of 36.2 million Mexicans. The aim is to expand it to 50 percent of the population by 2020 and to 92.5 percent by 2024.
