LTE: A Message from Rabbi Gross –

George Washington in 1790 praised our young republic as an exemplary society which “gives to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance.”  Yet both bigotry and persecution have marked the recent action of some individuals, in the form of a shooting attack that killed eleven Jews at prayer in Pittsburgh on October 27– the most serious anti-Semitic act in American history– followed by the fire-bombing of seven Brooklyn synagogues the first week in November.

The Marco Island Jewish community is grateful for the support of our many compassionate neighbors who called and visited our Synagogue the week after the Squirrel Hill shooting to express their concern, and who joined us in Sabbath worship on November 02 as a gesture of caring and solidarity.   We appreciate being part of a richly diverse community where everyone has a place at the table, and where good neighbors make our Island home a place of which George Washington would be justly proud.
