AT&T and Porsche Cars North America have signed a multi-year agreement to bring high speed internet to select Porsche Macan, Boxer and 911 2017 models. AT&T will offer connectivity on its LTE network for the carmaker’s Connect Plus services, which are available as standard or as an option on a number of models. The services include a Wi-Fi hotspot able to connect five devices, navigation, news and weather alerts. Porsche customers can take advantage of Connect Plus services with a standalone plan. Existing AT&T customers will pay a USD 10 monthly access charge for connecting Porsche cars equipped with Connect plus to an existing Mobile Share Value plan.
AT&T also announced that it will add next-generation technology to the Audi Connect System in select 2017 and 2018 Audi vehicles in North America. Since 2014, AT&T has provided Audi cars with connectivity for Audi Connect and Wi-Fi. Under this new agreement, Audi will be providing next-generation technology, featuring new safety, security and infotainment features, such as remote lock and unlock, stolen vehicle locator, online roadside assistance and service requests over the AT&T network.
Separately, AT&T and Vodafone are supporting the introduction of the Opel and Vauxhall OnStar service in select European countries. In Europe, OnStar’s Wi-Fi LTE service, enabled by Vodafone, is available in all new Opel and Vauxhall passenger vehicles. OnStar’s 4G LTE Wi-Fi connection is already available in Spain, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK. The service offers a hotspot capable of supporting up to seven mobile devices, and features emergency services such as roadside assistance and automatic crash response, stolen vehicle assistance, vehicle diagnostics and destination download. AT&T has local data centres in Germany, the UK, France, Austria, Spain and Italy to support the service.
