Almost three-quarters of Dutch own smartphones

Almost three-quarters of Dutch consumers aged 12 and older have smartphones, up from half the population two years ago. In the past 24 months, millions of Dutch consumers have swapped their feature phones for smartphones, according to the Dutch Smartphone User report 2014 Q3 from Telecompaper.

The market researcher asked around 12,000 consumers aged 12-80 about their use of mobile phones. The survey found that almost half (47%) have Samsung smartphones, and 21 percent use Apple iPhones. The other most popular brands are HTC, LG, Sony, Huawei and Nokia.

Other findings include that men more often have the latest models of phone. Over half the consumers with a Galaxy S5 were men and 61 percent of iPhone 5s owners. Apple was also found to be better at selling multiple products to the same consumer. Three-quarters of iPhone users with tablets have iPads. The survey also found that 11 percent of respondents received their smartphones from a family member, either as a gift or hand-me-down.
