It’s a whole new (well, kind of old) world for fans of classic Disney games.
GOG, a digital distribution site that specializes in digital rights management (DRM) free versions of retro PC games, announced today that three classic, 16-bit Disney games are coming to its store. These include Aladdin, The Lion King, and The Jungle Book. You can buy each for $10 separately ($9 during the launch period) or spend $20 to get all three.
Specifically, the Aladdin game is the Genesis version. The Super Nintendo also had a title based on the animated film, but it was completely different. The Lion King and The Jungle Book games were relatively similar across both platforms.
“Developed during the golden age of platformers, Disney Aladdin, Disney The Lion King, and Disney The Jungle Book established themselves as hallmarks of the genre, earning the praise of fans and critics alike for over two decades,” GOG noted in a press release sent to GamesBeat. “Of course, no mention of these revered platformers would be complete without a nod to their groundbreaking visuals. With the advent of Digicel technology, hand-drawn cels from Disney’s animation team brought the characters to life with a level of vibrancy that was unparalleled at the time and remains impressive today.”
