Reality says differently, though, with about two months left before tax deadline day. Experts advise using that time to squeeze every penny you can out of Uncle Sam, and leverage every tool you can to get that job done.
Enter, stage right, a burgeoning number of mobile apps that can greatly aid tax filers in their time of need. To break through the hundreds of tax-related apps on the market, TheStreet asked around for the helpful tax filing mobile apps. Here’s what we found:
ItsDeductible Donation Tracker – If you happen to donate to a lot of charities, this app can track where you donated and log any associated documents or mileage, says Jayson Mullin, owner and founder of Top Tax Defenders. “Premium members can export this information into their tax preparation software with ease,” Mullin states.
IRS2Go – The official app of the IRS, IRS2Go doesn’t have some of the high tech features other apps offer, Mullin says. “But it’s a great way to check in on the status of your refund or search for local tax preparation services,” he adds. “You can also sign up for helpful tax tips throughout the year which should ease tax-related stress.”
H&R Block Tax Preparation app – Carrie Smith Nicholson, a financial writer and founder of the CarefulCents.com blog, says the H&R Block tax app is great – especially for freelancers and other self-employed career professionals. “Whether you have a simple tax return, or something more complicated, you can use the H&R Block Tax Preparation app to get started filing your self-employed taxes and state return for free,” Nicholson says. “Once you decided on the complexity of your tax return, you’ll pay anywhere from $29-$79 to electronically file it.” Nicholson says the app’s “Smart Import” feature allows tax filers to take a picture of their W-2s or 1099MISC for instant import. “Plus, the H&R Block mobile tax app automatically reviews your return for errors and omissions, and the maximum refund is guaranteed,” she states.
